Peak Form Fitness

Peak Form Fitness is an innovative app designed to help individuals with various physical limitations find gyms that cater to their specific needs. The app provides users with tailored information about accessible fitness centers, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can participate in fitness activities in an inclusive and supportive environment. Whether users require specialized equipment, modified facilities, or adaptive workout programs, Peak Form Fitness makes it easier to find gyms that offer the accommodations they need to reach their fitness goals.

Problem

Shane is an adult with limitations due to age and physical ability. He is seeking a gym that provides accommodations for individuals with similar needs.

After conducting three user interviews with individuals who have varying disabilities, a common theme emerged: cost was a significant factor in their decision-making process when choosing a gym.

Results

Key Findings: Participants with mobility issues highlighted the challenges of not having accessible gyms. They expressed a strong desire for an app that provides detailed information about local gyms that cater to their specific needs, making it easier to find suitable fitness options.

Process

Initial Research:
I chose this idea because, as a regular gym user, I noticed that many gym facilities are not fully accessible to everyone. This led me to explore how to make fitness more inclusive.

User Interviews:
To gain deeper insights, I conducted interviews using the think-aloud protocol. During these sessions, users shared their experiences and thoughts on gym accessibility, as well as provided feedback on the functionality of the screens I had designed for the app.

Usability

The goal of the usability testing was to evaluate the screens I created based on insights from user interviews. Specifically, I aimed to:

  1. Assess navigation: Determine whether users can easily navigate the screens without confusion.

  2. Identify usability challenges: Observe if users encounter any difficulties understanding or using the features of the screens.

Recommendations:

  1. Remove the Extra Map Screen: The additional map screen does not add value to the user experience. I recommend removing it and replacing it with an image of the gym’s icon, making the interface cleaner and more intuitive.

  2. Simplify Button Text: In the buttons section, streamline the language by using simple, clear text like "Next" rather than describing the next page. This reduces clutter and improves navigation efficiency.

Solo Project

This is my solo project presentation showcasing the PeakFormFitness app, an accessibility-focused mobile application designed to help users with various needs and abilities find and customize fitness experiences. The app allows individuals to tailor their workouts based on factors like mobility, equipment availability, and class specifications, ensuring an inclusive and personalized fitness journey.

Prototype:

This is the model I used to test the PeakFormFitness app. The purpose of these screens was to provide participants with the ability to customize their fitness classes based on their individual needs and abilities, ensuring a more inclusive experience. This customization allows users to adapt workouts to accommodate specific mobility requirements, fitness levels, and personal preferences.

Annotated Wireframes:

These high-fidelity screens are designed to offer individuals the ability to customize their fitness experiences based on their unique needs and abilities. Features include options to tailor classes according to factors like range of motion, adaptive equipment availability, and other accessibility considerations, ensuring a more inclusive and personalized fitness journey.

What I Learned:

  1. Gym Accessibility Challenges: I learned that not all gyms are accessible to everyone. This made me question how individuals with visual impairments or those using wheelchairs can fully access certain gym features, such as hot tubs or specific equipment.

  2. Willingness to Pay for Accessibility Information: I discovered that people are willing to pay for an app that provides information about gym accessibility. Since gyms vary greatly in terms of accessibility, it’s frustrating for some users to visit a gym only to find they cannot participate due to their specific limitations. An app that helps users identify suitable gyms can save time and reduce inconvenience.

Usability Report

Sketches for the Fitness App:

These are the initial sketches I created for the Peak Form Fitness app. My goal was to design a user-friendly interface that would help users easily find gyms that accommodate their specific needs. One of the key features I wanted to incorporate was a map-like functionality, allowing users to search for and navigate to accessible gym locations. This feature would enable users to quickly identify nearby gyms that offer the necessary accommodations, making it easier for them to find a fitness environment that supports their personal goals and limitations.

Journey map: Shane is a person with a disability who wants to start going to the gym in his area. . These are his steps to do so.
